Itinerary
The Isle of Wight was a very special place for Queen Victoria, and it is perhaps this connection with her, as well as the shape, which is why it is nicknamed the Diamond Isle. On this excellent seven day summer holiday we discover Victoria’s favourite home and experience the magic of this iconic island for ourselves
Isle of Wight Steam Railway & Ryde
Ryde is a quirky mix of traditional seaside resort and Victorian architecture, and was much loved by Queen Victoria. We spend the morning here before travelling to Havenstreet for our visit to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, where we will enjoy a tour, train ride along the length of the line, and delicious cream tea
Yarmouth & Cowes
Exploring the West side of the Diamond Isle, we travel first to Yarmouth, the pretty port town for some free time, before continuing to the yachting centre of Cowes, where we explore at leisure
Osborne House (£ – must be prebooked)
Discover Queen Victoria’s favourite home, built between 1845 and 1851 as a private family residence for Victora and Albert, and designed in the Italianate style as the surrounding countryside reminded Albert of the Bay of Naples. As well as the beautiful house, there are stunning gardens and grounds to explore, the Swiss Cottage and pretty beach beside the Solent
