Itinerary
From windswept uplands to lush glens, towering cliffs to miles of empty strand, the Isle of Man has amazing scenic diversity, often described as ‘Britain in Miniature’. We stay in Douglas, the island’s capital, for our summer holiday
Castletown, Cregneash and IOM Steam Railway
We begin the day with a visit to Castletown, home of Castle Rushen, for free time, before continuing to Cregneash, a living museum dedicated to the preservation of the Manx way of life with traditional cottages, Loghtan sheep and, of course, the Manx cat! After a stop at the pretty town of Port Erin, we travel back to Douglas with a scenic steam train journey through the Isle of Man countryside
Peel and House of Manannan
Peel is said to be the best example of a typical Manx town, and our visit to the House of Manannan gives you an excellent insight into the Island’s rich Celtic, Viking and Maritime past. You will also have free time to stroll along the beach or visit the castle before we return to Douglas for a free afternoon
Snaefell by rail, Laxey Wheel and Milltown Gardens
It’s a day of two train journeys, beginning with the Manx Electric Railway from Douglas to Laxey, and then boarding the Snaefell Mountain Railway for our trip to the summit – where you can see seven kingdoms on a clear day! After a visit to the Laxey Wheel, we continue to Milntown Gardens for the afternoon
Your Hotel
The Rutland Hotel is in an excellent location on Douglas seafront, at the quieter end of the promenade, with the restaurant offering a choice menu each evening. There is a lift to all floors but please be aware there are steep steps up to the front door
